Tricia H.
Private tutor in Indianapolis, IN
Education
I graduated with honors from Indiana University in 1991 with a BA in Chemistry and a minor in Psychology. I went on to take graduate courses in Education at Indiana University in order to obtain my teaching license. I received my Secondary Education teaching license in Illinois, certified in several sciences.
Experience
I was a substitute teacher for 1 year, classroom teacher for 3 years, an Algebra and math tutor for over 10 years as I raised my children, and I am currently in my fourth year of teaching Algebra 1 at a Homeschool Cooperative. I enjoy teaching Algebra 1 because it lays the foundation for students' math experience and prepares them for the ACT and SAT. I have tweaked and retweaked the lesson plans for my Algebra 1 course in order to present the material to my students in the most effective and interesting manner. I appreciate the one-on-one teaching environment that tutoring provides because it enables me to evaluate and address students' specific needs and struggles. As the tutor, I will facilitate the learning process as a supplement to the classroom teacher's instruction.

Hobbies
I am the mother of four amazing children, three of whom are teenagers! My husband and I welcome many of their friends into our home on a regular basis, which gives me the opportunity to observe and engage with this intriguing group of humans! I admire their zeal and tenacity as they discern their place in the world. I do not take my role as mom or teacher lightly, and I recognize my opportunity to make a positive impact on their lives and their education. In that light, I also use my "spare" time to counsel young women in areas ranging from strife with parents to marital issues.
