I'm a tutor based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Although I live in a bigger city now, I grew up in a very small town. The lack of entertainment options in my hometown led me to become an averous reader. The reading I did as a child led to a fascination with history, eventually leading me to get my bachelor's in history from Transylvania University in Kentucky. I worked for awhile at a software company after graduating, but eventually moved to England to pursue a masters degree in modern history from Durham University. My work with tutors and teachers throughout my educational career has left a profound impact on me. Now, I'm taking what I've learned as a student and applying it towards being a tutor. As a tutor, I believe in the importance of making real connections between student and material, in order to drive student engagement. This allows a student to develop a real passion in the material rather than just learn what's required for a test. Outside of the classroom, I've also worked with children as a swim coach and as an assistant scoutmaster. These experiences have reinforced my belief that good teaching requires positivity, patience, and enthusiasm. My experience has also taught me that every student is different, and that each will require a targeted lesson plan designed for them alone. I hope the skills I've developed can help you achieve in the classroom.
