Education

Masters of Public Affairs, School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), Indiana University, Bloomington with concentrations in Nonprofit Management and Social Entrepreneurship (2010-2012) Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, Hanover College, with double majors in Spanish and Communication (2006-2010)

Experience

I currently work as the Development & Communications Manager for a nonprofit organization in downtown Indianapolis. I'm interested in tutoring because I am looking for some supplemental income, but I also genuinely enjoy working with students to develop language skills and/or improve abilities in writing and communication. I have several years of tutoring experience at multiple grade and experience levels. I began tutoring as a high school student (Zionsville High School), where I tutored Spanish 1 and 2. Then throughout college, I worked in the campus "Learning Center" where I tutored my peers in entry-level and advanced Spanish, writing (including research, essays, and creative writing), and communications. To provide some background information, as a high school student, I was enrolled in AP US History (Score: 4), AP Spanish (Score: 4), AP Writing & Composition (Score: 5), and AP Literature (Score: 5). I also have experience studying for and excelling in the SAT and GRE. I've taken many courses in communication & rhetoric, spanish language & spanish literature, and public speaking. I'd be happy to elaborate on my relevant coursework with any prospective families or students. Through my 6 years of undergraduate and professional education, I have learned a lot about effective teaching and tutoring styles. I believe that I am a patient tutor and that I have a keen ability to recognize trouble-spots and areas of miscommunication.

Hobbies

In my spare time, I enjoying reading - both fiction and non-fiction - and listening to NPR and pop-culture podcasts. I also enjoy traveling, both for work and for pleasure. My travels have taken me to study abroad for a semester in Spain, work abroad in Ecuador, and volunteer on medical trips to Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and El Salvador. I'm also an avid football fan (go Colts!)
